🛠️ Devlog Entry: The Adventurer’s Battleground – A 5-Map Collection
📅 Date: 01302025 📌 Status: Released on Itch.io and Roll20 Marketplace
🌍 Introduction: Bringing Adventures to Life
After weeks of designing, testing, and fine-tuning, I’m excited to announce the release of The Adventurer’s Battleground: A 5-Map Collection on the Roll20 Marketplace! This pack is built to bring tactical combat and immersive storytelling to virtual tabletops, offering a versatile mix of wilderness, ruins, and eerie locations for adventurers to explore (or fight for their lives in).
From dense forests to haunted graveyards, each map was crafted with gameplay flexibility in mind, ensuring both Game Masters and players have dynamic, engaging environments that work seamlessly in Roll20 and other VTTs.
🗺️ Map Breakdown: What’s Inside?
This pack includes five battlemaps, each designed for a different adventure setting:
1️⃣ 🌲 Forest Clearing – A quiet, open space surrounded by thick trees, perfect for an ambush or a hidden camp.
2️⃣ 🌊 Riverside Ruins – A broken bridge over rushing waters, with the remains of an old structure. Could be a key strategic point or a long-forgotten battleground.
3️⃣ ⚰️ Graveyard of the Forgotten – A mist-covered cemetery filled with cracked tombstones, abandoned mausoleums, and eerie lighting.
4️⃣ 🏴☠️ Corsair’s Cove – A pirate’s hideout along the coastline, complete with shipwrecks, hidden alcoves, and dangerous waters.
5️⃣ 🌿 Swamp of Shadows – Murky, fog-filled marshlands dotted with flickering will-o’-wisps and towering, gnarled trees.
Each map includes: ✅ Grid & Gridless Versions ✅ Dynamic Lighting-Ready Versions (for Roll20 users) ✅ VTT-Compatible Exports for flexible use across platforms
💡 Design Process & Challenges
Creating these maps was both exciting and challenging! Here are a few things I learned along the way:
🔹 Balancing Detail & Performance – While high-resolution maps look great, file size limits meant carefully optimizing textures and lighting layers to ensure smooth gameplay.
🔹 Dynamic Lighting & VTT Integration – Roll20’s dynamic lighting system was a key focus, making sure walls, obstacles, and line-of-sight worked correctly.
🔹 Striking the Right Level of Detail – I wanted to include enough environmental storytelling elements (fallen logs, abandoned camps, ruined structures) while keeping the maps versatile enough for different encounter types.
🚀 What’s Next?
This is just the first of many map collections I plan to release! Future updates may include:
🔸 More urban & dungeon environments
🔸 Seasonal variants of existing maps
🔸 A dedicated adventure module to go with the maps
